Itinerary idea in detail
Includes international flights from a choice of UK airports, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Tokyo. Upon arrival, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to settle in or venture out for a first glimpse of Tokyo, where quiet shrines and traditional alleyways exist alongside some of the world’s most futuristic architecture.

This morning, enjoy an introduction to Tokyo, exploring districts that reveal the city’s unique balance of tradition and innovation. Later, visit the renowned Tsukiji Outer Market before taking part in a sushi-making experience, offering an insight into one of Japan’s most celebrated culinary arts.

Spend today exploring independently. You may wish to travel to nearby Kamakura, home to ancient temples, forested pathways and the famous Great Buddha, or continue discovering Tokyo’s museums, gardens and distinctive neighbourhoods at your own pace.

Make your way to Hakone by bullet train. Surrounded by mountains and volcanic landscapes, this scenic region is famed for its hot springs, lake views, and occasional glimpses of Mount Fuji. Upon arrival, settle into your ryokan-style retreat and enjoy the change of pace.

Hakone is yours to enjoy today. Wander through art museums, take in the natural scenery, or simply spend time soaking in your private onsen bath. This is one of Japan’s most relaxing regions and an ideal place to slow down before your cruise.

Leaving Hakone behind, travel back to Tokyo today and board Silver Muse. As the ship departs the capital, begin a voyage around Japan’s coastline, taking in historic cities, cultural landmarks, and lesser-visited corners of the country along the way.

The first sea day allows time to settle into the rhythm of the voyage. Watch the coastline disappear into the distance, enjoy the ship’s facilities, or simply take a moment to appreciate the experience of journeying through Japan by sea.

Arrive in Kobe, a sophisticated port city backed by the Rokko Mountains. The city provides access to nearby Kyoto, where centuries-old temples, elegant gardens, and traditional geisha districts reveal another side of Japanese culture.

A second day here allows for a deeper exploration of the Kansai region. Historic castles, revered shrines, and carefully preserved districts offer a reminder of the area's importance as the cultural heartland of Japan.

Hiroshima is a city whose modern identity is shaped by resilience and reflection. Alongside its peace memorials and museums, visitors will find a thriving contemporary city and access to Miyajima, home to one of Japan’s most iconic shrine settings.

With the coastline gradually unfolding around you, today provides a natural pause between destinations. Perhaps attend an onboard lecture, spend time on deck, or simply enjoy the slower pace that sea days offer.

South Korea’s second-largest city presents a fascinating contrast to Japan. Bustling seafood markets, colourful neighbourhoods, coastal temples and broad sandy beaches combine to create a vibrant introduction to Korean culture.

This working fishing port sits along the Sea of Japan coast and offers a glimpse into a quieter, more traditional side of the country. The surrounding region is noted for its historic towns, landscaped gardens, and strong connection to local folklore.

Once one of Japan’s wealthiest castle towns, Kanazawa has preserved much of its historic character. Samurai residences, geisha quarters, and artisan workshops sit alongside Kenroku-en, widely considered one of Japan’s finest landscape gardens.

Niigata’s prosperity has long been tied to its fertile agricultural lands. The region produces some of Japan’s highest-quality rice and has developed a reputation for exceptional sake, making food and drink an important part of the local culture.

At the southern gateway to Hokkaido, Hakodate blends maritime heritage with a distinctive architectural character shaped by both Japanese and Western influences. Fresh seafood, historic buildings and panoramic harbour views are among the city’s highlights.

As Silver Muse turns south toward Tokyo, take time to enjoy the final moments of your voyage. A leisurely day onboard provides the opportunity to reflect on the many regions, cultures, and landscapes encountered along the way.

Arrive back in Tokyo this morning. Following disembarkation, transfer to the airport for your flight home, bringing to a close a journey that has combined Japan’s cities, cultural landmarks, mountain scenery, and coastal communities. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
